Egypt Family Holiday

John and I had a ball - much better than I think we were anticipating. Company was good and the guide outstanding. No unexpected discomfort and organisation was good - no waiting around. Altogether a good mix of experiences with a main thrust of understanding some Egyptology. Hany taking care of tipping was a bonus. Lack of other tourists (eg Americans) was a huge bonus - felt sorry for the Egyptians but definitely made the trip. Exemplified by no one over 18 stone until Hurgada.

Hany was excellent on educating us re Egyptology and the big picture as well as current politics. We did things which I suspect were off the normal tourist track - eating with a Nubian household, donkey ride etc.

Summer Pyrenees Family Holiday

There was a good balance of activities and time for yourself. The activities provided something for both adults and children and were challenging but achievable.

We had a fantastic week, with activities geared to the ages and fitness of children and adults and expertly run by Steve and Andy. The hotel was basic but clean, and the food and hospitality were also excellent.

Egypt Family Holiday

I loved the remarkable history, with my favourite temple being the near deserted Philae Temple, and the cultural experience with the Nubian family.  Almost the entire village turned up to sing and dance.  For my husband, the complete relaxation of sailing on the Nile was a revelation. Our children (aged 7 and 5) had a great adventure with highlights being the pyramids, sleeper train, donkey ride and swimming/snorkelling in the Red Sea.  They really enjoyed playing with the other children, especially shark games in the many hotel swimming pools.

Walead transformed to holiday from good to fantastic.  He anticipated our needs, ensured the logistics went smoothly and was great at communicating and entertaining all the children.  He used them as "actors" to tell the stories encapsulated in the amazing hieroglyphs and in the way made ancient Egypt come alive for all of us.  He has an incredible historical knowledge, passion for his country and a great sense of humour.

We went on the April 2013 departure and never had any concerns about safety. In fact, it was a great time to visit as there were few crowds and we could enjoy the sights at leisure. We covered a lot of ground and many sights and experiences. There was no way we could have packed-in so much if we'd travelled independently. It was great to let go and have someone else take care of all the logistics! As our children were relatively young we flew to Cairo one day early. This also gave us more time to discover the Pyramids. We booked a guide who took us to Dahshur and Memphis. Going inside the Red Pyramid was incredible. We also followed the advice in other reviews and stayed an extra two nights at Hurghada. This enabled us to relax and experience another day at the reef and Giftun Beach. This was ideal as the conditions were much better on our second trip. The Adventure Company arranged the hotels / flights and Walead booked the additional reef trip for us. He even arranged a surprise birthday cake for my husband and another boy on the trip. Lots of creaking and clanging on the sleeper train kept my husband and I awake, although the kids seemed to sleep through. By swapping with another family, we got interconnecting cabins. At Hurghada we were initially assigned non adjoining rooms but this was corrected straight away and we were given lovely interconnecting rooms in a garden villa. The temperature in Aswan and Luxor was very hot. Sunscreen is essential. We ran out and bought some in Egypt but ended up getting burnt. Make sure you bring a good supply.

Our group leader was Aartie. She made the holiday special; there was nothing that she wouldn't do to make our stay as comfortable and enjoyale as possible. She really went above and beyond the call of duty. She was entertaining, informative and inspirational. She helped us see the world from a differant perspective ans she enabled us to see the real India by offering us extra activities that weren't apart of the holiday package . She was more than a tour guide and became our friend. I could go on for ages about how amazing she was but to sum it up she made the trip special.

- Travel light - If you're going to give money to beggars, do it discretely - Always haggle - Get Aartie as your tour guide

Costa Rica Family Adventure

There were so many inspirational moments on this trip. Amazing landscapes, tropical forests, awsome wildlife and flora, sea food and fish to die for, colourful and friendly people everywhere, perfect accommodation (jungle lodges to luxury), and last but not least, the white water rafting on the Pacuare and zip wiring over the cloud forest canopy.

We've been on many excellent organised holidays (India, China, Africa), but Costa Rica stands out amongst the crowd. A truly memorable experience we shall never forget and certainly the best Christmas we have ever had.

What made an already great holiday into a memorable one was the knowledge and commitment of our tour guide, Vinny. From him, we learnt the true meaning of conservation and ecology, (the World could learn much from this tiny country). He is passionate about his country, and as a tropical bioligist, there was nothing he didn't know about the huge diversity of fauna and flora of Costa Rica. Nothing was too much trouble, and even after a long drive, he still had energy to take us to his favourite restaurants, thus we ate rather well. Thank you Vinny!

We had no problems with flights, both to and from Costa Rica. Just make sure you are booked on flights that allow at least 2 hours for transfer in Madrid.

Himalayan Teenage Adventure

It was a bonding experience with all the family.  Kids had never been anywhere quite like it.  Sounds, smells, people, places all memorable.  The monastery was the goal, the journey getting there was everything.

Best family trip we have ever done !

Costa Rica Family Holiday

The wildlife was a highpoint but the country is so beautiful, friendly, and felt very safe. The various regions each have their own identity and the trip seemed like 5 seperate holidays all rolled into one, each with their own unique treasures.Tortuguera: The wildlife was just fantastic, the lodge (Pachira) was beautiful. The rooms were basic but clean. This was the favourite of my wife. Howler monkeys living in the trees above our room was a high spot, but there call is a little scary!Sarapiqui: White water rafting was fantastic fun. The hotel (La Quinta) was a little tired but rooms were very clean and pool aras were good. Wildlife again was great. This was the favourite hotel of several in our group. The cocoa tour (optional) was very good and all who went on it commented on this.La Fortuna (Arenal): My favourite. The hotel (San Bosco) was clean, nice pool and the town was 1 mins walk with great restaurants, bars and shops. My personal favourite because of the views of the volcano and hotel. We did not do the hot springs tour but those who did said it was fantastic. Monteverde: Simply magical place. The cloudforest has an atmospere of its own. The cloud comes down quite quickly and it can turn wet. The hotel (El Establo) was brilliant. Nice pool areas, nice bar overlooking the ornamental pond and great views from the rooms. Built on a steep hill but the hotel has vans to take you up and down if you want to. We walked. Monteverde feels like a frontier town. Great place. The ziplining was great fun. The last is 1km long!Punta Leona: The hotel has all the facilities you need, decent rooms and scarlet macaws flying all around. The beach is beautiful, and pool areas spacious, large and clean. the ideal hotel to wind down a little after your trip. The favourite of our son, and it seems all the other kids on the trip, but the adults enjoyed it too. The crocodile tour (optional) was very good.

The group leader and driver were both excellent. We cannot praise them enough. Nothing was too much trouble, everything was really well organised and there was simply no worries at all throughout the trio. Although there was the set itinerary, the GL was happy to make other wrthwhile suggestions. A highlight was that out GL loved his food, and as such we NEVER ate in the hotel, except at Pachira Lodge where there was nothing else! We went to a variety of local restaurants and all were excellent. The tour was run by Costa Rican Trails and they were efficient, friendly and VERY knowledgable.

Don't worry about taking the children. Costa Rica felt very safe. The people were very tolerant and friendly and most speak a little English. Water was OK to drink from the tap throughout. A couple in our party had short term tummy upset but that was all. There were 3 of us and we spent on average about £27 for lunch (in total) and £60 for dinners although we did not have starters and only rarely a pudding. Portion sizes were good!. We did drink a few beers and some margaritas as well that is included in the cost above. Costa Rica was a real revelation. All of the photos attached to this were taken in the wild!. It's everywhere! We flew from Heathrow via Madrid and this was all painless but the Madrid - San Jose leg is long (10.5 hours) and there is no seat back entertainment so be prepared and take your own. We flew Iberia and this was OK, If you have any doubts, do it!

Croatian Active Family Holiday

The guide Hrvoje ( or Harry) was absolutely brilliant and unbelievably talented. He really made the trip. Other than him, the trip was well balanced and we don't agree with earlier posts that the activities were a bit tame- we are all active sportsmen/women. The hotel was clean, the staff were very pleasant and helpful, the rooms were large and the air con worked very well. The food was fine. I would say that the rooms at the front were a bit noise- traffic mainly but the odd loud reveller.

As above- superb

Request a rear facing room, but this should not be a deal breaker as the front rooms are fine.
